Overview

Badiraguato spans the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in north-central Sinaloa, between the farming plain and the sierra area watered by the Ríos Badiraguato and Humaya.

Its economy combines rain-fed and irrigated agriculture in the lowlands with ranching in the sierra.

History

Badiraguato appears as a distrito as far back as Sinaloa's first Constitution, of 1831. It was suppressed in 1861 and its territory was administered from the Distrito de Culiacán; in 1894, the state's sixth Constitution restored it as the state's tenth distrito.

With the 1917 Constitution and the disappearance of the district system, it was consolidated as one of the state's free municipalities.

Geography

The municipality lies in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental, watered by the Ríos Badiraguato and Humaya, with elevations ranging from 100 to 2,800 meters above sea level.
