Eldorado

Eldorado lies on the coastal farming plain of south-central Sinaloa, south of Culiacán, with a coastline on the Gulf of California. The municipality is divided into four sindicaturas: the Central one, seated in the locality of Eldorado, and those of Leopoldo Sánchez Célis, Las Arenitas and Guadalupe Victoria.

Its economy is predominantly agricultural, heir to the cane- and vegetable-growing character of the region when it was part of the municipality of Culiacán.

The territory of the municipality of Eldorado was part of the municipality of Culiacán until it split off in 2021. The state congress approved its creation through Decreto No. 597 on 5 March 2021; the corresponding declaratoria was issued on 19 March of that year, and the decree was published in the Periódico Oficial "El Estado de Sinaloa" on 22 March 2021, entering into force the following day.

The new municipality, formed from the then Sindicatura de Eldorado, began operating with full legal effect on 1 November 2024, after a period of administrative transition led by a Comité Municipal Fundacional.

The municipality keeps the extent and boundaries the former Sindicatura de Eldorado had within Culiacán; it borders the sindicatura of Costa Rica to the north, the sindicaturas of Quilá and Emiliano Zapata to the east, and the Gulf of California to the south and west.

It is divided politically and administratively into four sindicaturas: the Central one (seated in the locality of Eldorado), Leopoldo Sánchez Célis, Las Arenitas and Guadalupe Victoria.
