Overview

Guamúchil lies on the farming plain of north-central Sinaloa, around the old railway alignment — now Avenida Ferrocarril — which anchors the city's commerce.

It has held the government of the municipality of Salvador Alvarado since 1962 and concentrates the region's commerce, services and farm produce trade.

History

The settlement grew from the railroad's arrival: the station opened on 1 August 1908, a date the municipal government commemorates every year as the start of Guamúchil's urban growth.

In 1962 the state congress, through Decreto No. 280, separated the sindicatura of Guamúchil from the municipality of Mocorito to create the municipality of Salvador Alvarado, with Guamúchil as its seat.
